Results, Reports, Pictures, Videos- Minnesota Half Marathon & NROC 10K Championship

The Minnesota Half Marathon & NROC 10K Championship were held this past weekend. You can use the links below to access results, reports,  pictures, videos, and pictures-

Dave Sarmiento was a tenth of a second behind first place Jose Botero’s 34:53.6. Both pros bolted through the course like a couple of overcaffeinated hyenas chasing down an impala for breakfeast. They stretched almost a minute between them and the rest of the pack before Rob Bell, Tyler McGinnis and Matt Meyer each caught up and stole a limb from the carcass. You could hear them laughing and growling all the way to the picnic tables.

Break out the Geritol. Morgan Williams (37:53.0) took first in the geriatric crowd. The next to reach the nursing home was Herb Gayle followed by Twiggs, Johnson and the Old Man himself, Cale Carvell. All of them were beating each other with canes to get across the finish first.

Last Saturday I raced in the inaugural Minnesota Half Marathon in St Paul. It was my second girls-only race of this season and it couldn’t be more different than the experience at Chicagoland Inline Marathon.

What an amazing effort from Rueben, to be honest I saw him take off and thought it was too early, but it turned out to be an inpsired move and we didn’t see him again till a couple of hours later at the finish line! A brave and strong attack and a truly deserved victory. Congrats Rueben!

New Zealand & Australia At 2009 World Roller Speed Skating Championships

MundoPatin shared New Zealand’s line-up for this September’s World Roller Speed Skating Championships taking place in China. You can also view New Zealand’s roster here.

Click here to see who will represent Australia.

Bill Begg shared his thoughts on the New Zealand & Australian teams.

Australia looks to have a solid team, if all are on Form, lets hope the Finster brothers can keep out of Hospital, after the last two Worlds, Mick Bryne has decided to opt for preparing for Worlds in Australia & Daniel Greig will test everything thats waiting for him & senior medals are well within his reach.

New Zealand has not the surety around if of recent years, no Shane Dobbin a 4 x World Champion & Current Marathon Champion, a very big blow for the Kiwi team, Kalon Dobbin has stuggled this season with Injuries & the World Games, did not bring any joy.

And for your enjoyment, click here for videos from 500-meter track races from the Spain World Roller Speed Skating Championships.

Nicole Begg- Goodbye Hong Kong Hello China

Read more of Nicole Begg’s latest here; Goodbye Hong Kong Hello China.

There has been a lot of rain in Asia recently so I will be happy to be able to train in an undercover facility and at normal hours. While I’ve been in Hong Kong and training with the Checker Sports club training usually only starts after 11pm and in the dark. Unfortunately they don’t have a facility specifically for speed skating so they have till wait until the lights are switched of at the basketball/soccer courts and everyone goes home which is usually around 11.15pm.

Live Breathe Skate- This Bud’s for You

Live Breathe Skate shared a neat little entry; This Bud’s for You

In the last few days I’ve heard a lot of “soldier” stories, many more than usual. I wanted to take a moment to recognize the the commitment that many skaters have to their sport and to themselves. Even though they may not compete for podium positions, ever be mentioned when guessing who the next champ will be, or chase an Olympic dream, their passion for our sport is just as salient.

Sometimes I think I have it tough, but in the larger view, everyone has it tough, in one way or another, and for each person, their personal battles will always be more intense to them.

Pascal Briand- Running Sprints, Rest Day At The Beach, & Bike Crash
