Referee’s Perspective- Gross Gerau International Criterium

In the thread Gross Gerau International Kriterium, Canadian Referee Alex Perrie shared his perspective of the racing at the recent Gross Gerau International Criterium in Germany-

It’s not surprising this post got put down to the bottom so fast. It’s like an ostrich putting it’s head in the sand. The reality is these guys are out there now and doing it right. Amazing racing on a great circuit. This was my 5th year as a judge and my first year as an an International assistant chief judge I have noticed a cleaner European style of racing in all the divisions. Skaters having respect for each other means a step toward’s a potential Olympic spot. Skaters like Kalon Dobbin, Bart Swings Daniel Gregg, the Columbians and many more. Yes I know the States has Joey but there are a lot of great US skaters who would of benefited from this kind of track experience. Two days of perfect weather with close to 800 skaters keeps this meet the #1 race in Europe. After talking to the organizer they would love to have an American and Chinese Team participate next year. Cheers Alex

Candy Wong- Ground Hog (And Technique)

Amusing stuff from Candy Wong in her latest entry A Technique Check Up

All seriousness aside, I had a little showdown before practice began with the resident groundhog at our track. I was chatting with friends at one end of the track when I noticed the silhouette of a furry little creature on the grass across.

Report- Bont Wheels Team Racing At Univ√© World On Wheels- Emerlord, Holland

The Bont Wheels Team Racing girls placed 1-2 at Wednesdays’ Univ√© World On Wheels in¬†Emerlord, Holland. You can read a report here; BONT WHEELS TEAM Racing 2009

Well the race had 64 girls racing. It was 32 laps alongside a canal so they went over a bridge at each end. It was a flat bridge. The course was flat and pretty rough none of it was smooth. We think it was about 800m per lap.

You would have really enjoyed watching this race and the Dai Davis even said that you would have enjoyed it as the pace was on and there were plenty of breakaways. The girls were either in the breakaways or had them covered. At one stage Nicole and Kelly were away and Liana chased for about 3 laps.

Chicagoland Inline Marathon Extreme Makeover

There’s lots of good stuff hapenning with this year’s Chicagoland Inline Marathon;

The addition of running and cycling doesn’t appear to be altering the inline focus. The centerpiece of the weekend is the four race “Pro Inline Tour,” which starts Friday night with a 300-meter dash, continues Saturday with a 2-mile time trial and 10K criterium, and concludes Sunday with the marathon. (There is also a 10K and half marathon for less competitive skaters.)

Starykowicz, a 23-year-old skater from Long Grove, IL, said the idea behind the redesign is to draw a wide variety of fitness enthusiasts to the event. “It’s all about getting everybody involved … from kids to walkers, from first-time skaters all the way up to the pros,” he said.
