Ice Chips: The Speed Skating Season In Review- From Universal Sports

Check out Universal Sports’ Ice Chips: The Speed Skating Season In Review.

There are plenty of hurdles between the U.S. and a gold medal at the 2010 Olympics. Among them are long track skaters Sven Kramer (Netherlands), Denny Morrison (Canada) and Havard Bokko (Norway). On the women’s side, watch for Renate Groenewold (Netherlands), Martina Sabilkova (Czech Republic), Anni Friesinger (Germany), Jenny Wolf (Germany) and the Canadian combination of Kristina Groves and Christine Nesbitt.

Bart Swings’ Love Affair With Trois Pistes

“The first real race of the season”
The last three years, he started his inline season at the same event, le Trophée des Trois Pistes. With over 1,000 participants, it is certainly the best track race in the World. No wonder Swings loves to go there; he already claimed the victory 2 times and he is a track racer pur-sang.

Candy Wong’s Windy Weekend

Here’s Candy Wong’s latest- A Weekend To Remember

GN warned me about the crazy windy condition before training on Saturday. One quick look at the weather report and I realized we would be dealing with 40km/h wind. Since many people warned me of the windy condition at the Texas Road Rash course, I welcomed this training opportunity.

Speed Skating Canada Calls For Action to Help Address Calgary Olympic Oval Financial Situation

The operating budget of the Calgary Olympic Oval has been cut significantly this year, going from 3,6 million to 2,9 million, and the current funding from the funding partners for the 2009-10 year is of 2,1 million. To address the shortcoming, staffing cuts were announced in the last weeks, and there are plans in place to reduce ice time from 9 months to 5 months. This reduction means that SSC’s athletes, as well as all Calgary Oval athletes from various provinces and territories across the country, would not have access to the ice in the Calgary Olympic Oval until September, and would only be able to skate there until late January 2010.
