Wouter Hebbrecht: Post Worlds: Rest or Rust

Wouter Hebbrecht wrote his first entries since the World Roller Speed Skating Championships in Gijon, Spain, where he earned two bronze medals- see Rest or Rust and Post Worlds Hang Over

I hope that explains the head line and my hang over a little. Only one thing left to do at this point; go back and train harder and avoid injuries! I will glue a bronze medal to my underwear drawer so i have to look at it every day! This will remind me to work harder and take care of my body better! A lot of people told me that I should be happy that I ended up with something but to me nothing tastes better than gold!

1. REST

2. LIVE IT UP

3. PLAN YOUR TRAINING

4. FINE TUNE YOUR EQUIPMENT

5. GO BACK TO THE BEGINNING

6. ENJOY

Also, the sports physiologists who work for US speedskating said that so many weeks of intense competition in a row would lead to emotionally and physically fried athletes, just a few weeks before the start of the games.

For a lucky few, it’s a stepping-stone to other things, but for the majority of us who race this event, it’s a singular moment that will echo in our hearts for as long as we live.

T minus 24hr. I woke up in the dark in preparation for my flight to Duluth and thought for sure that the next 24 hours would be unbearable. I was wrong. I was so caught up with the atmosphere at the expo and the joy of reconnecting with skating friends from all over the continent!
