  1. i joined the Leicester roller speed club in 1959 , Cliff and Den Stafford became my mentors and convinced me to join the Birmingham speed club where i enjoyed training with some great skaters, Cliff employed me at his garage at Birstall and had a great influence on me both with the skating and the motor trade, i retired from racing in 1967 for personal reasons and lost touch with most of my old skating chums i was so sad to hear of the passing of both the brothers and had some hilarious times with them for several years, I owe Cliff a great deal as he became a father figure and taught me so much and gave me confidence in all aspects, i did have the pleasure of meeting his son Chris at B’ham wheels a few years ago and Cliff must have been so proud of what he has achieved, i am 76 yrs now and very aware that this tribute is rather late in the day but nothing has changed my respect for these good mates but the good memories still linger on, god bless you both
